What Does the Google My Business Store Code Do?
The store code doesn’t directly affect how your business appears to customers on Google Maps or Search results. Instead, it’s a tool to help you manage and organize your locations behind the scenes.
For Bulk Spreadsheet Uploads: Store codes are essential when uploading or updating multiple locations via a spreadsheet, such as business hours, categories... Each location needs a unique code for proper identification.
For Reporting: When running reports, especially for multi-location businesses, the store code can help you distinguish between branches or areas, making it easier to analyze performance data.
How Update the Google My Business Store Code
Finding and managing your store code is easy if you know where to look:
Log into Google My Business: Head to Google Business Profile Manager and log in with your account.
Navigate to the Location Tab: If you manage multiple locations, you’ll see them listed.
Check Advanced Settings: Click on the “Advanced Settings” section.
The store code is a unique identifier that you assign to each of your business locations within your GMB account.
It's especially helpful for businesses with multiple locations. Think of it as a custom label for each storefront—similar to a nickname but for business management purposes.
Simplifies Multi-Location Management: Each store can be easily differentiated in reports and listings.
Customizable: You can assign a store code that makes sense for your business, whether it’s a branch number, city name, or something else relevant.
After following the previous steps, move your mouse to the Store Code Number and proceed to change it. Remember to save the changes!
How to Find the Google My Business Store Code
Click on Business Profile Settings
Click on Manage Location: Select the location you want to view or edit.
Click the Info Tab: Click at the 3 points on your GMB Dashboard.
Check Store Code: Scrolling down, you’ll find the field labeled “Store/shop Code.”
Whether you're managing a few locations or hundreds, using store codes in Google My Business simplifies your workflow and helps you stay organized. You can also add team members to manage your listing if needed.
It's an essential tool for multi-location businesses, especially when dealing with bulk updates and reporting. If you’re not already using store codes, now’s the time to start!
